Crafting expressive Loire Valley wines shaped by heritage, friendship, and biodynamic commitment.

The story

Domaine Bonnigal-Bodet lies on the slopes of Limeray, facing the Loire River and the historic town of Amboise. Though the estate has roots stretching back through several generations, its current identity was forged in 2015, when childhood friends Jean-Baptiste Bonnigal and Stéphane Bodet returned to take the reins.

Their collaboration brought new energy to a family domaine, combining deep local knowledge with a forward-looking approach to farming and winemaking. Their arrival marked a quiet turning point: a shift toward more attentive vine work, a renewed respect for the surrounding landscape, and a shared belief that thoughtful agriculture is the foundation for meaningful wine. What began as a continuation of family heritage has evolved into a purposeful project driven by curiosity, precision, and a strong sense of place.

In the vineyard

The domaine benefits from a mosaic of soils, flinty clay, clay-limestone, and pockets of varied textures that change from parcel to parcel. This diversity is well suited to the Loire’s signature grapes: Chenin Blanc, Côt, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pineau d’Aunis.

From their first vintage together, Jean-Baptiste and Stéphane committed to organic farming, favouring gentle manual work and careful observation of each vine. In 2021 they deepened this philosophy by adopting biodynamic methods, aiming to create healthier soils, more resilient vineyards, and fruit that speaks clearly of its origin.

All grapes are harvested by hand and handled with deliberate care. Small crates protect the berries, and the team sorts every cluster with a sense of shared purpose that reflects the domaine’s collaborative spirit. It is agriculture practiced with both precision and patience.

In the cellar

Each parcel is vinified separately to preserve the distinct identity of its terroir. Whites ferment in large 620-liter demi-muids, allowing gentle oxygen exchange and slow, steady development. Reds are fermented in vats, with native yeasts initiating and guiding fermentations across the range.

The team intervenes minimally: lees remain undisturbed, sulfur is used sparingly, and élevage unfolds at its own pace. Wines rest on fine lees for months, gaining depth, texture, and that quiet luminosity characteristic of thoughtfully crafted Loire wines.

The result is a collection that feels both grounded and vibrant: bottles shaped by friendship, respect for the land, and a shared desire to reveal the nuance of every parcel.

Taste the place

Expect wines that balance purity with texture, brightness with structure. Chenin expresses itself through layers of minerality and tension, while reds show lifted aromatics, supple fruit, and a clear signature of the varied soils of Limeray. These are honest, expressive Loire Valley wines crafted with care from vine to bottle.
